Mercury Removal
Amended Silicates is injected into coal combustion gases upstream of the Baghouse or Fabric Filter. Amended Silicates interacts with the mercury, chemically modifying it into an inert and insoluble state. Injection rates are comparable to Powdered Activated Carbon but will vary from plant to plant based upon variables such as coal type, LOI and baghouse temperature.
Balance of Plant Impacts
As a non-carbon, silicate based sorbent, Amended Silicates has similar physical and chemical properties to fly ash itself. There is no evidence of buildup, erosion or any other potential impacts of sorbent addition when using Amended Silicates.
Baghouse
Novinda has researched the impact of Amended Silicates on various bag types. As a non-carbon, silicate based sorbent, Amended Silicates has similar physical and chemical properties to fly ash itself. To date, no evidence of blinding, buildup or any other adverse potential impacts have been observed.
Preserves Fly Ash Value
Amended Silicates is
100% compatible with concrete, making it an environmentally and fiscally responsible choice for mercury control. Use of Amended Silicates could save a 500 MW power plant over $2 million annually in combined preservation of fly ash value and avoidance of landfill costs.
Superior Handling Characteristics
As a non-carbon based product, Amended Silicates is non-flammable – an important consideration when choosing a mercury emission control technology. Additionally, Amended Silicates has similar physical and chemical properties to fly ash and has not been observed to produce any noxious or corrosive off-gases. These attributes make Amended Silicates easy to store and handle.
Leachability
Tests have shown that mercury absorbed by Amended Silicates and contained within the Amended Silicates-fly ash mixture is strongly bound to the sorbent. This mixture passes stringent
EPA leachability standards.
